AUGUST 9th 2019 - DAY OF REFLECTION - MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKERS
Most Rev. Philip Arnold AnyoloArchbishop Philip A. Anyolo was born on May 18, 1956 in Tongaren, Bungoma Diocese. He was ordained priest for the Catholic Diocese of Eldoret in 1983.
Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Kericho on December 6, 1995 and was consecrated as Bishop of Kericho on February 3, 1996. On February 20, 2002, The Holy Father John Paul II appointed him as Apostolic Administrator of Homabay Diocese and he was appointed Bishop of Homabay on March 22, 2003 and installed as Bishop of Homabay on May 23, 2003. He was elected Chairman of KCCB in October 2013 and is currently serving his second term. The Holy Father Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Kisumu on November 14, 2018 and he was installed as Archbishop of Kisumu on January 12, 2019. He is also the Apostolic Administrator of Homabay Diocese. |
Deacon Carl ChiloDeacon Carl Chilo was ordained in 2012 and holds a Bachelor of Theology and a Certificate of Spiritual Direction. He has served as a Detention Chaplain, Hospice Chaplain, Merchant Marine Chaplain, Chairman of the Social Justice Committee, RCIA Coordinator, Marriage Coordinator and Healing Prayer Minister. He is currently Director of Multicultural Communities and Master of Ceremonies in the Archdiocese of Seattle. Deacon Carl is a native of Louisiana. He enjoys hiking, fishing reading inspirational books and preparing Cajun and Creole Cuisine.

Deacon Eric PaigeDeacon Eric Paige serves as Director of Marriage, Family Life and Formation for the Archdiocese of Seattle with responsibility for CYO Camps, Faith Formation, Marriage and Family Life, Retreat Center, Young Adult Ministry and Youth Ministry. Prior to this, Deacon Eric directed the Archbishop Brunett Retreat Center. He has also served as Pastoral Associate for All Saints Parish in Puyallup and Legislative Director for the Washington State Catholic Conference.
In addition to his responsibilities directing the Office of Marriage and Family Life and Formation, Deacon Eric serves as Human Formation Coordinator and teaches on Morality and Catholic Social Teaching for the Archdiocese of Seattle’s Deacon Formation program. He is also regular columnist for Northwest Catholic Magazine and has written for Parish Life Magazine. In addition to speaking on matters related to Marriage and Family Life, he speaks on subjects including Catholic Social Teaching, Faith Formation, Morality and Scripture. Rev. Simion NjugunaRev. Fr Simon Njuguna Waweru, is a Kenyan priest of The Augustinians of Assumption (Assumptionists). Fr. Simon’s desired to serve God as a priest started early. As a young boy while in High School he was in constant contact with the Consolata Fathers, who used to come to his school for mass every week. He had a very strong desire to join religious life and while he did not join the Consolata Fathers he went to seminary to become a Diocesan priest in 1988.
He later moved and joined The Assumptionists in 1997 and was ordained a priest in 2007 in Tanzania. In 2008, Fr. Simon was appointed the Parish Priest in Arusha, Tanzania a positon he held until September 2014. Fr. Simon was The Assumptionists Vocations Director in East Africa for about 7 years; working with young people to discern whether God is calling them to the vocation of priesthood and religious life. Fr. Simon has served in various positions within The Assumptionists. Within The Assumptionists East Africa Regional Council for 9 years, first as the Secretary then as the Assistant to the Regional Superior and the Regional Superior for three years. Fr. Simon also served as the Secretary of the Board of Trustees of The Assumptionists in Tanzania and then as the Chairman. In March 2016 after his term as the Regional Superior, Fr. Simon came to help the North American Province of The Assumptionists, He worked in the Parishes of Worcester and Sturbridge until September 2017, when he moved to The Assumptionists Formation house in Brighton, MA where he is currently a formator of our brothers who are in formation preparing themselves as future ministers. While doing the congregation’s formation work he is also enrolled in graduate school. Fr. Simon has been very supportive of evangelization efforts to strengthen spiritual wellbeing of various Kenyan Catholic communities living in the diaspora. He is currently the Spiritual Director for the Catholic Women Associations (CWA) of St Patrick’s, NJ and Worcester, MA. Fr. Simon used to play lawn tennis, badminton, table tennis and other indoor games. Now, he has little free time due to homework and his duties and much of any free time he has he enjoys reading, especially newspapers and the bible in preparation for his homilies. He has yet to decide which physical he will do to keep physically fit. |
Boniface Mailu Ph.D., MBABoniface is an experienced, innovative, results-driven, highly motivated multi-faceted scientist with over 10 years’ post-Ph.D., experience working on identification of new drugs, new drug targets and next generation vaccines for infectious diseases and in particular Malaria. In his current role as a strategy and operations manager in the biotechnology industry, Boniface combines his scientific expertise with his excellent business acumen to lead and at the same time play a key facilitative and coordinative role to a matrix team of business/therapeutic unit leaders to drive strategic revenue growth initiatives that leverage on business development, corporate strategy, R&D portfolio/program management, end to end product management, alliance management and operationalization of important cross functional initiatives.
Born and brought up in Mombasa-Kenya, Boniface is a holder of a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree Chemistry and Biochemistry (Egerton University-Njoro, Kenya) and Master of Science (MSc) degree in Chemistry (Egerton University-Njoro, Kenya), Doctor of Science (Ph.D.,) degree in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Parasitology (Justus Liebig University-Giessen, Germany) and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) degree (University of Washington-Bothell-WA USA). Besides his academic and professional excellence, Boniface engages in activities that supports the empowerment of young people to achieve academic excellence. He was one of the founding board of directors for SeaVuria a 501(C) non-profit organization which is involved in various activities that empowers students to pursue science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by link up local Seattle High School students and students from 10 partner schools from Vuria in Taita-Taveta, Kenya. Boniface has also served as a board member for Seattle catholic schools namely Holy Names Academy Girls High School-Seattle WA and Christ the King School-Shoreline WA. Boniface will be leading a panel discussion in Youth Session 2 with the topic of discussion being “Culture Shock and peer pressure: How are you shaping your journey?” |
Rev. Fr. James NorthropFr. James Northrop was born in Pullman, WA and grew up in Richland, WA. He attended the University of Idaho and obtained a degree in Vocal Music Education. After college he attended St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo, CA for five years. He was ordained on June 7, 1997 by the late Archbishop Thomas J. Murphy. He thoroughly enjoys his ministry as a priest and has been an instructor for the Archdiocesan Catechetical Certification program. He enjoys conducting retreats, working on music, fishing with his family, and helping people discover the wonderful presence of the Holy Spirit.

Mr. Symon NjugunaMr Symon Njuguna was born in Kenya 54 years ago and currently lives in Federalway, Washington State. Symon is married to Nancy, and they have four children; John, Lucy, Winnie and James.
Professionally Symon holds a diploma in Building and construction but this has not stopped Symon, a staunch Catholic from pursuing his inner calling of serving the church. He is a parishioner at Holy Spirit church Kent, WA, where he is a Catechist, Faith formation minister, Eucharist minister, and a youth coordinator. During his free time Symon also does sports instruction. Symon Njuguna will be leading the children’s Session 3: topic “A child of God: lovable, loving, and talented. Identifying and nurturing gifts and talents”. Daria LobatoDaria Lobato holds a Bachelor of Education and Development and a Licentiate in Religious Sciences. She has served in youth and family counseling, life coaching, youth and young adult ministry and youth leadership development in the US and abroad. She is currently the Director of Youth Ministry Services for the Archdiocese of Seattle.

Eva Kariuki is a devote catholic and happily married. She has served the Catholic Church in many roles spanning many years. Her church services started at her home church of Kariko Catholic church, Kenya, where she was baptized and got married. Later she served at St. Stephen’s church Mombasa and currently she is a lector and Eucharistic minister at Holy Spirit Catholic church, Trent, WA. Eva works and relates well with children. Eva will be leading the children’s session topic, Luke 2:52 “And Jesus increase in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man”
